Aloe Vera Care

Aloe vera is a hardy, low-maintenance succulent known for its medicinal and cosmetic properties. Here's how to care for it:

1. Light

Bright Indirect Light: Aloe vera thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, especially in very hot climates.

Indoors: Place near a sunny window, preferably south- or west-facing.

2. Watering

Minimal Watering: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Frequency: Water every 2–3 weeks during spring and summer, and less in winter.

3. Soil

Well-Draining Soil: Use a cactus or succulent mix. Alternatively, mix regular potting soil with sand or perlite.

Pot Selection: Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water retention.

4. Temperature and Humidity

Optimal Range: 55–80°F (13–27°C).

Frost Sensitivity: Aloe vera is not frost-tolerant; bring it indoors if temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C).

5. Fertilization

Low Nutrient Requirement: Feed sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus fertilizer every 4–6 weeks. Avoid fertilizing in winter.

6. Pruning

Remove Dead Leaves: Cut off any brown or withered leaves at the base.

Harvesting: When using for gel, cut mature leaves from the outer edges.

7. Repotting

Every 2–3 Years: Repot when the plant outgrows its pot or becomes root-bound.

8. Propagation

Offsets (Pups): Remove and replant the small aloe plants growing around the base.
